Spring Sing 2008 is coming Tuesday, March 4!
What is Spring Sing??? Spring Sing is a competition between campus organizations that Blue Key has organized for more than 60 years at OCU. Groups compete for trophies and bragging rights for the next year.
Who can participate? Any university recognized organization.
What are the rules? Funny you should ask…the rules are just below and there is a registration form attached as a word document if your organization would like to participate.
Spring Sing 2008
Rules
1. Any recognized OCU organization may enter. At least five organizations must enter in order to stage this program. Every participating organization must bring twenty canned goods to Spring Sing as their entry fee.
2. The categories are as follows:
a. Greek
b. Open (any non-social Greek letter organization)
3. Both men and women may participate in a group as long as they are legitimate members of the group. Those not yet initiated or auxiliary members may also participate.
4. All participants, including instrumentalists, choreographers, directors and group competition members must be currently enrolled and active OCU student members of the performing organization.
5. A minimum of eight participants is required to enter the Spring Sing competition.
6. Each organization must perform at least two songs. A medley is acceptable and each presentation may be no longer than ten minutes long.
7. Solo, duet, and quartet performances (vocal and instrumental) are permitted only if they are less than one-third of the time allotted for the song in which they are performing. Solo and small ensemble (up to four people) performances are allowed in each song as long as the time limitation is met. Solo and small ensemble performances and their respective times must be indicated on the entry form.
8. Any combination of five instruments (piano included) is allowed for accompaniment of the entire presentation. A piano will be provided on stage. Pre-recorded accompaniment WILL NOT be allowed. Electronic synthesizers may not use music programmed into them. Electronic keyboards will not be allowed. All instruments must be set up and taken down in three minutes.
9. There will be one stationary microphone provided. No other microphone will be available.
10. Choreography will be strictly limited to movements that can be performed on the risers and within a section of stage taped out like the diagram below.

No one may leave the stage during the group’s performance.
11. Props will be allowed, but must be approved by Donna Hodkinson or Amy Simpson, Blue Key Vice President. Describe props fully and clearly on the entry form. The three minute time limit for instrument setup and takedown applies to props as well. Each organization is responsible for clearing the stage for the next performance.
12. Judging will be on the following components:
50% sound (level of difficulty and level of quality)
30% Presentation (costumes, props, choreography, facial expression)
20% Material (originality)
13. Trophies will be awarded for first, second, and third place in each category. There will also be a showmanship “People’s Choice” awarded to any organization that is voted on by Blue Key members only.
14. The entry deadline is Friday, February 20, 2008. Entry forms should be turned in by 5 p.m. to Donna Hodkinson in Walker Center 251, Humanities Dept. Once your entry form has been turned in, no changes will be allowed to your program. Be 100% positive of what your group will be performing.
15. Along with the entry form, the director must submit a roster list of the performers in your organization.
Dates to Remember:
February 20, 2008: Deadline to turn in entry forms and rosters to Donna Hodkinson.
March 3, 2008: Spring Sing Rehearsal in Petree Recital Hall at 7:30 p.m.
March 4, 2008: Spring Sing in Petree Recital Hall at 8:00 p.m.
